Biography

Chicago heavy metal band Dirge Within were launched by guitarist Shaun Glass in 2008, following his departure from the commercial nu metal band SOiL, having cut his teeth even before that as a member of '90s death metal band Broken Hope. Originally begun as an off-the-cuff songwriting workshop between Glass and ex-Blank Theory drummer James Knight, Dirge Within eventually gained strength with the addition of vocalist Jeremy "Jerms" Genske and subsequent arrivals Matt Szlachta (guitar) and Brian Paz (bass). It was then just a matter of time before the quintet's groove-laden style of modern metal caught the attention of E1 Records, which would release their debut album, Force Fed Lies, in September 2009. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
