b. 4 July 1952, Sydney, Australia. Slim Dusty was Australia’s best-loved country performer and his wife, Joy McKean, is the ‘Queen of Aussie Cowgirls’. Their daughter, Anne Kirkpatrick, allegedly gave her first performance at the age of two when she strayed onto the stage in her nightdress while her father was singing and subsequently stole the show. She also presented her father with a gold disc for ‘A Pub With No Beer’. By the time she was 12, she was working regularly with the Slim Dusty Show and doing her studying by correspondence courses. She sang and played bass on many of his recordings and her first solo album was released while she was at university. After graduating, she formed the Anne Kirkpatrick Band and built up a reputation in Sydney. The first phase of her career is neatly summarized in the aptly titledAnnie’s Songs, and she can also be heard to good advantage on the live double album Slim Dusty - The Entertainer. After taking time off to raise a family, she remodelled herself as a contemporary country music performer. She often records US country hits (‘Sight For Sore Eyes’, ‘A Bottle Of Wine And Patsy Cline’) but is also a fine songwriter in her own right.
