Review

Despite their Amazonian name, Cusco is in fact the partnership of two Germans, composer Kristian Schultze and Michael Holm, who plays synthesizer. The two have put together numerous albums, regularly combining electronics and synth pan-flute with various elements of Western pop and classical music. They draw upon the indigenous musical traditions of the Amazon rain forest, including those of the Inca, Aztec, and Mayan civilizations. Their songs, including "Flying Condor" and the urgent "North Easter," often celebrate those cultures while simultaneously mourning an unforeseen catastrophe: the steady destruction of the natural environment by modern forces.
