Biography

Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1981 (of Jamaican, Indian, and Dominican descent), pop-oriented R&B artist Olivia specializes in sultry, smooth sounds à la Janet Jackson, TLC, and Salt-N-Pepa. Born with the talent of perfect pitch, Olivia developed her singing in the church choir, singing Michael Jackson songs for friends, and taking voice, guitar, and piano lessons as a teen, eventually inking a recording deal with Clive Davis' J Records in August 2000. April 2001 saw the release of Olivia's self-titled debut and Top 20 hit single "Bizounce." She released several singles over the next ten years -- including "Twist It" with Lloyd Banks, "Cherry Pop" with Missy Elliott, and "I Do" with French Montana -- but gained the most fame for her feature on 50 Cent's number one hit "Candy Shop" in 2005. In 2011, she took a starring role on VH1's Love & Hip Hop: New York. After appearing during three seasons of the show, Olivia released the single "Sun Don't Shine" in 2014, featuring Sean Kingston, plus a book titled Release Me: My Life, My Words. ~ Greg Prato
